Anime that shook the world
Anime and Manga began humbly as a Japanese imitation of the American comic strips, thus becoming the books we know as Manga. Soon enough, technology evolved, anime followed, evolving from short graphic novels to serialized TV shows, movies, games, and music. As anime became popular in the rest of the world, people began to notice a little more about this silent genre from the land of the rising sun. Over the years, there have been exceptional anime that have caught everyone’s attention, fans or not.

Pokémon, for better or worse, has become a household name.
The franchise began as a humble video game based on the pleasures of game designer Satoshi Tajiri fans. Tajiri liked to collect insects as a child and applied it in a game. With the help of renowned game creator Shigeru Miyamoto, the mind behind hits like Mario and Zelda. In 1998, American children were lost Pokemon Red and blue (or in Japan Red and green) which allowed players to collect and train different truths of creatures known as Pocket Monsters. The game has since been adapted into a series, which became a huge hit in the American markets. Soon, children across the country will not only collect games, but also toys, trading and battle cards, and books. The card tournaments were great and the rules were easy to understand. The children would fight officially or simply at home.
When The TV series was launched in 1997 it quickly became extremely popular – kids loved it! Nintendo shares soared off the charts, but the series would soon find itself in trouble. Originally created as a one-shot series that would conclude with the main character Ash Ketchum (Satoshi in Japan) triumphing in the Pokémon League. However, runaway success
On December 16, 1997 at around 6:00 PM (18:30) Japanese time, the episode known roughly as Porygon Electric Soldier broadcast in Japan with alarming consequences. Despite the controversy it has faced over the years, a show cannot be suppressed. Today it has lasted more than 500 episodes and has spawned 14 feature films and short films, making it the longest running animated series based on a video game. If you need more proof that the series is still a global phenomenon, consider the fact that Pokemon Black & White sold 1 million units in 1 day.
In the late 90s, Pokémon paved the way for a number of other series like Digimon Rancher monster Y Medabots; shows still fondly remembered among their fans today. The games continue to delight new and old players alike, regardless of age. Through controversy through criticism, the series remains on top of the world. Today Pikachu has become the most recognized and iconic figures in video games. In the 90s, anime was still a niche market where buying was limited to expensive imports. For many anime watchers today, Pokémon is fondly remembered as a gateway series and arguably began the growth process of Japanese media in the Western market.
