Apps for people with speech disabilities

Speech disability affects people in the way they create sounds to form words. Some of the most common forms of disability are stuttering, apraxia, and dysarthria. Affected people are not able to say what they want to say even though they are fully aware of what they need.

This becomes a major problem for most people as they are unable to communicate freely. Fortunately, the digital world has made it easier for people with speech disabilities to communicate with others. These are some of the applications used for those affected.

Vaakya – ACC Application

Another important app for people with speech disabilities is the Vaakya – AAC app. It is a photo-based application that is designed to help people with speech problems. People with speech problems stemming from aphasia, stroke, or MND/ALS can use the app. Similarly, people suffering from cerebral palsy, autism, and other related mental issues can take advantage of the app.

AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication, Vaakya – AAC can help people during rehabilitation. The app is suitable for both literate and illiterate people as it is photo-based and therefore easy to use. Users can create their own set of photos and audio related to someone so they can communicate effectively. There is a custom setting for users to take advantage of to communicate. At the moment, Vaaky – AAC runs only on the Android platform.

This is an essential app for people with speech, language and motor disorders. It is a “voice to voice” application that gives people with disabilities the freedom to express themselves naturally. This is possible by allowing them to use their voice to communicate. It can recognize speech patterns and translate them into understandable words.

Talkitt can translate unintelligible pronunciations into perfect sentences with great accuracy. Additionally, the app can work across almost any severity spectrum of speech impairment, from mild to severe. Also, the app can translate the user’s speech into any language. The apple is compatible with both iOS and Android.

This app has been designed to address issues faced by people with various medical conditions such as brain tumors, selective mutism, brain injuries, Parkinson’s, and others. It is always a struggle for both the listener and the speaker who has speech disability issues. The app is designed to articulate their needs and feel quickly and thus reduce their stress levels and ultimately lead them to a comfortable life.

The app also uses AAC to allow people with speech disabilities to communicate through speech synthesis by clicking buttons and photos. The app can be downloaded on Android and iOS platforms. There is also an optional web app that users can use.
