5 ways to care for colored hair

Pink, purple, red, burgundy are all colors that can be used on your hair to make it stand out. But color can wreak havoc if not used correctly or if hair care products don’t work their magic. Your color can do a disappearing act on your face or just look dull and uninterested, things you want to avoid. Here are 5 ways you can take care of your hair if you’ve already treated it to a great color.

Go to a hair spa
Most of us invest in an avalanche of hair care products to take care of colored hair. While that’s a good start, a hair spa might work better. Indulge your hair with a hair spa treatment that pampers and nourishes it with great conditioning. A hair spa can be adjusted to suit color-treated hair, which means it gives your mane some much-needed moisture, which can never be a bad thing. Color treated hair can dry out due to chemicals and this is the best way to prevent it from becoming frizzy and unmanageable.

cut them
Colored hair can cause split ends that don’t look good on anyone. Of course, good hair care products kick things up a notch, but that would be a short-term fix. To keep your hair in excellent shape, opt for regular haircuts. If you want to keep your length, ask for a simple cut and it will work. Timely trims also help keep hair healthy. You’re also going to want to put down the styling tools for a while and a good cut will make you look sharp without that damaging blow-dry.

There’s no fun in the sun
The sun can be your enemy when your hair is colour-treated. The sun tends to fade the color, which will result in a less than perfect shade in your locks. Since your crown is most likely to face the brunt, that’s where the discoloration is most likely to start. Your hair care product can be a savior, but only for a while, so it’s probably best to avoid the rays. If you simply must soak up the sun on that beach vacation, throw on a hat and you’re good to go.

Color me right
Choose shampoo, conditioners, and all other hair care products carefully. Try and choose the ones made especially for colored hair, as these can enhance the shine and body of your hair. While specialty products may seem a bit unnecessary, consider the fact that color-safe products don’t strip your hair of essential moisture.

chemical free
If you want to make permanent changes to your hair, straighten it, perm it, or give it a bounce, it’s best to do so long before you decide on a coloring session. The chemicals in these treatments can be harsh, and when combined with coloration, they spell bad hair days in big, bold capital letters. Give your hair enough time to breathe between two treatments. Invest in genuine herbal hair care products as they are less damaging.

Of course, there are regular things you need to take care of, but these should help you when you color your fabulous mane.
