Blogging for profit? Avoid these 4 things!

Tips for blogging for profit

Blogging for profit is a popular topic. I get asked all the time, how can I make money blogging?

For those of you interested in blogging for profit, there are four things to avoid if you want to be successful.

  1. Set unrealistic expectations.
  2. Spending too much time writing and not enough time marketing.
  3. Occasional content writing.
  4. Writing for you, and not for your readers.

Many new bloggers set unrealistic expectations. Much of this is due to the widespread hype that fills the internet about making money online quickly with little to no effort.

Blogging, like most online marketing opportunities, takes time to turn into a profitable business.

There are a number of skills you need to develop, and for some the learning curve is steep. Most bloggers learn through trial and error. That, of course, is time consuming and can backfire.

You end up taking two steps forward and one step back.

To avoid that error, set realistic goals based on your commitment to blogging. Take into account the time it takes to write and publish content, build a reader base, drive traffic, and other assorted marketing tasks.

While writing good content is important, if your goal is make money bloggingyou have to balance her writing with other important marketing responsibilities. I have met so many bloggers who coveted every post like it was their child.

Blogging for profit is about providing content, often solutions to problems your readers need to solve, and not about creating literary gems.

However, on the other hand, you will also not earn money if you blog sporadically.

Create a blogging schedule and do your best to stick to it. Some blogging experts recommend blogging every day until 50 posts are published. That is not a rule, but a reference point. Only you know your schedule and whether or not you can post every day.

Lastly, your articles must be interesting and compelling to your readers; and not just you. The more people you can attract to your blog and keep them coming back, the more profit you potentially make.

While the money may be in the list, the Catalyst there is traffic to get there.

In a nutshell, what you want to do is:

1. Set realistic expectations.
2. Divide your time between writing great content and marketing your blog.
3. Set a blogging schedule and stick to it. It is much easier to publish 1 article a day than to write 10.
4. Make sure you write with your readers in mind. The more you connect with them and their needs, the easier and faster you’ll begin to benefit from blogging.
