How to Get Rid of Clogged Pores in 6 Easy Steps

We all know that clogged pores are inevitable. But, if we make a few changes to our skincare routine, the clogged pores will be significantly reduced. Clogged pores are the beginning of many skin problems, especially enlarged pores. When your pores are clogged with oil residue, dead skin cells, and dirt, your pores will be stretched out and thus you will see a lot of large pores on your face. On the other hand, if every pore in your skin is clean and empty, the appearance of the pores will not be visible and your skin will look much more refined. Therefore, it is very important to take the following steps on a daily basis to make sure you maintain a nice complexion before you need to know how to close your pores.

Step 1 – Remove makeup or sunscreen

Practice this step even if you only have sunscreen on your face. SPF skin care products like BB creams, tinted moisturizers, and sunscreens are often resistant to water and sweat. Therefore, it might be difficult to wash thoroughly with just a normal face wash.

Try using gentle oil-based makeup removers. Cleansing oils aren’t just great for removing waterproof makeup; They are also very effective in removing oil residue and impurities from the pores. Try not to use cotton pads for oil cleaners. Instead, use your fingers to gently massage your face thoroughly with the oil make-up remover, then rinse with lukewarm water.

Step 2 – Wash your face

Pores look enlarged and more noticeable if they are clogged with dirt and oil. Sand and grime will dilate your pores making them look larger. Therefore, washing your face is the most essential step in your daily regimen. Use a gentle cleanser if you have sensitive skin, a foaming cleanser if you have oily skin, and oil-based or non-foaming cleansers if you have dry skin. For acne-prone skin, you may want to use a cleanser that contains antibacterial ingredients.

Step 3: Steam your face to open the pores

Use a facial steamer if you have one at home. If not, follow the steps below:-

Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil on a stove. Once steam begins to come out, remove the pot from the heat.

You can add a few drops of essential oil to hot water to relax or tea tree oil if you suffer from acne.

Drape a towel over your head and lean over the steaming water. Put the towel on your shoulders and the pot so that the steam is directed to your face. Let it steam for about 5-10 minutes.

Step 4 – Exfoliate your skin

While your pores are open now, it’s a great time to get into your pores and remove stubborn impurities, dead skin cells, and oil residue that facial cleanser alone can’t remove. There is a daily method and a weekly exfoliating method that I recommend you use.

Method 1 – Face Brush

Facial brushing effectively opens the skin pores. This is something that can be done on a daily basis. This method is very effective in removing dead skin cells, stimulating blood circulation, improving lymphatic drainage, and most importantly, flushing out toxins. You can use it in conjunction with a facial cleanser or simply dry brush your skin. Remember to choose a facial brush with soft but firm bristles.

Note: To begin with, it is recommended to try to brush your face 3 times a week. Only after your skin has got used to this method, you can do it once a day.

Method 2 – Use facial scrubs

Facial scrubs contain microparticles/spheres in gel and cream form that help remove dead skin cells and remove impurities from the pores. This will help improve the penetration of all the skin care you apply to your skin. Facial scrubs are readily available at any beauty supply store and pharmacy. However, I prefer the homemade ones as they are made with 100% natural ingredients and I will know what I put on my skin. Of course, the best reason is that homemade ones are only a small fraction of the retail price and the ingredients are readily available in our kitchen. My favorite recipe would be the following:-

Baking soda face scrub

Ingredients – 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of water

Directions – Add water to baking soda and mix well until a smooth paste forms. Apply the paste on your face and gently massage your face. Avoid eyes area. Rinse with water.

Result – Instantly smooth and luminous skin!

Step 5 – Make a Deep Cleansing Face Mask

There are many types of face masks to suit different needs. However, to effectively cleanse our pores, we need to apply a deep-cleansing mask on a regular basis. This type of mask is available at health and beauty stores, but you can also make your own. I highly recommend clay masks and peel-off masks as they work by removing pore-clogging impurities.

Try my Homemade Deep Cleansing Black Mask which uses clay and activated charcoal as the main ingredient. The recipe is very effective in keeping your skin clean because the activated charcoal used will help remove impurities and toxins from your skin. Green clay is also another good ingredient that not only absorbs toxins but will also help remove blackheads and clean pores.

Homemade Deep Cleansing Black Mask

Ingredients: –

2 capsules of activated carbon (remove the capsule and pour out the black powder)

½ teaspoon green clay

1 teaspoon of water

Addresses: –

1) Mix all the ingredients to form a smooth paste.

2) Apply to the face. Avoid eyes area.

3) Let dry and then rinse with cold water.

Note: Be sure to stir the mixture with a plastic or wooden spoon, as both the charcoal and the clay draw out the toxins from the metals.

Step 6 – Splash with Cold Water

Finish your diet by spraying your face with cold water. You can also use ice cubes to close open pores, it is an instant remedy that you can use before applying makeup. This will instantly reduce the size of your open pores and help leave your skin looking smooth and will also prevent makeup from getting into your large pores, thus reducing the risk of clogged pores, acne and infections. Take ice cubes, wrap them in a cloth and apply them to your face with gentle pressure. This will have a tightening effect on the skin.
