Is boric acid an effective home remedy for yeast infections?

Another standard to help women fight candidiasis has been around for a long time and is the use of a boric acid suppository. Boric acid is really just a regular chemical with some not very strong antiseptic properties combined with some antifungal ability. According to some studies done in Italy, boric acid suppositories were actually as effective as taking an oral medication prescribed by a medical professional.

There have also been some larger studies suggesting that taking the oral medication known as Diflucan compared to using the suppositories actually resulted in a much higher success rate. More than twice as many patients were cured using the suppository than those using the oral remedy. That means nearly 64 percent found relief with the suppository and just under 29 percent had success with the oral medication.

In fact, in almost every registered clinical trial that can be found, the boric acid suppository used in yeast infection home remedies had a better overall success rate and left users happier.

That certainly is a big plus for the home remedy. In fact, you can get boric acid suppositories to cure your yeast infection at home at some compounding pharmacies and it is even available as an over-the-counter remedy that is very easy to obtain.

You should be aware that boric acid itself is a toxic substance and there are some general safety concerns with its use. First of all, when using it as one of the home remedies for thrush, you have to remember that it should never, ever be taken orally, also known as oral. You also don’t want to use it on or around any open sores or wounds that may be present.

There is also a concern about its use over a long period of time or in concentrations other than those listed as safe. You should also avoid using boric acid suppository if you are pregnant and should be kept away from children and babies at all times due to its toxicity.

All this being considered and put into practice. Side effects of this remedy are quite mild and may include slight burning in the vaginal area and mild irritation in and around the area where it is being used.

The shelf life of a boric acid suppository is quite long, so it is something you can keep on hand and be ready to use as soon as symptoms appear. The sooner treatment is applied, the faster relief will be seen and the sooner you can return to a normal life away from the uncomfortable effects of the infection.

Obviously, if you are not sure that what you have is really a yeast infection, it is recommended that you check with your doctor before using this or any home remedy.
