In October 2020, the Macallan is launching a 60-year-old single malt whiskey as part of its new Red Collection. It joins the brand’s 40, 50, 71, 74, and 78-year-old expressions in its list. These are among the oldest whiskies ever produced by Macallan. The brand’s name, which means “the red one,” is an homage to the label’s name: “Alexander Reid”. The Macallan has long been known as “the red one” because it was founded by a man whose name means “the red one”.
