Sony DSC-HX5V 10.2 MP (10x Optical Zoom) Digital Camera Review

If you’re someone (like me) who’s sick of the flat features on those mini compact digital cameras but still unwilling to lug around a giant DSLR when on vacation, just get your hands on the new Sony DSC Digital Camera. -HX5V. While still maintaining a relatively compact size, this model has managed to pack in a host of features not found on many compact models. On top of that, it has blazingly fast performance to boot.

The Sony DSC-HX5V comes with a 10-megapixel image sensor and a lens with a focal length of 25-250mm. On the back you’ll find a huge 3-inch LCD screen for reviewing your videos and photos. As for the shutter speed, the range is from 1/1600 of a second to 30 seconds. This model can also record Full HD videos at 1080p.

The Sony DSC-HX5V also scores well in the design department with its sleek all-black casing. It measures 4.1 x 1.1 x 2.3 inches in dimensions and weighs only 6 ounces. This camera would easily fit in your bag or coat pocket without being too obtrusive. All buttons and controls are intuitively laid out and quite easy to use.

The highlights of this camera would definitely have to be in its features and performance. One of my favorite features is the Smart Sweep Panorama mode which allows you to take panoramic photos with the press of a button. All you need to do is press the shutter button and pan the camera over the area you want to capture and the camera automatically creates a panoramic image of the shot. No sewing or editing needed.

Videos and photos taken with the Sony DSC-HX5V were very good overall, especially for a camera of its size and class. It was also extremely fast with a shutter lag time of just 0.4 seconds and it takes just 1.8 seconds from start to take the first photo. It also has an excellent shot-to-shot time of just 1.5 seconds. These figures leave many of its competitors in the dust. All in all, the Sony DSC-HX5V is a great compact camera model for anyone who likes to take great photos and have more control in their photography experience. At the time of this writing, it retails for around $349 per unit, which is quite a deal for a camera of this stature.
