When auto insurance car rental coverage is a must

Among the many coverage options associated with auto insurance, rental car coverage is one that the consumer should make an informed evaluation of their personal situation to see if it is a good coverage choice. Many times it would not be recommended but in certain situations it is considered essential.

Car rental coverage is not offered on all policies for all vehicles. Many times, the consumer will need to have comprehensive and collision coverage to qualify for rental car coverage. This is the coverage that protects the client so that in the event of an accident or stolen vehicle, the insurance company pays or reimburses the client for the expenses incurred to rent a vehicle to replace the unusable vehicle. This coverage is not required to be carried out on all cars on the policy. It can be selected only for the vehicles that the insured chooses to have protected.

Often, it would not be advisable to select this coverage in a policy. If an insured has multiple vehicles on one policy and has fewer vehicles than drivers, it would be unnecessary to pay the additional premium. If there was a loss on one car, the insured could easily use the other vehicles in the home that are not being used.

It is recommended that consumers include single vehicle households that purchase rental car protection on their policy. This is especially true when renting a vehicle would place a significant financial burden on the family. This is often the case in single vehicle households and being left without a vehicle due to an accident or theft could be detrimental to a family’s livelihood.

The premiums associated with this coverage are quite low. It can often be purchased with a limit of $40 per day and a maximum of $1200 for as little as $30 per year.
