Let’s say you’re branching out and want to find a potentially profitable new niche to spend your time developing. How do you know what people are interested in? More importantly, how do you find out what people are looking to buy online?

It is very important to do a trend search. Need to find out if a certain topic or product is past its peak or trending? What topics or products are people interested in? The last thing you want to do is invest in a project that may not be going anywhere.

If you know where to look, all your questions can be answered. There are a number of websites that allow you to see weekly, monthly, and yearly niche trends. You can discover the number of searches for keywords and phrases during the last year.

Places to Do Your Niche Trend Research

1. Google Trends – Google Insights – Google AdWords Tool

Since Google is currently the biggest and best search engine in the world, it makes sense to start here first.

With Google Trends – Google.com/trends – you can literally search the world to see what the interest is in your niche. You can easily limit your research to specific geographic locations and find out how often related topics and stories appear on Google.

With Google Insights For Search – Google.com/insights/search/# – you can really dig into niche information. Be sure to check out the examples they offer on their home page.

Google AdWords tool. AdWords.Google.com. This is a free keyword tool that gives you insight into the keyword phrases that people use for search purposes. Pay close attention to this. How you work with keywords will make or break your project.

Another good place for keyword research is Wordtracker.com. They offer a limited free service, a free trial, as well as various subscription plans. Even try it out for a week and you should be able to see how your keyword research has improved tremendously. Remember that Google only offers information about the results of its search engines. 2. eBay Pulse –

Another great place for a trend search. They provide links for their bestsellers, new releases, most wanted items, and most gifted items (given away). Just search any of their departments and you’ll find lots of great ideas.
