A DIY Guide to Vacuum Repair

It always seems that your vacuum cleaner will malfunction right before the company arrives. What do you do if your vacuum cleaner is not working properly? Many people will simply throw away their vacuum and buy a new one. However, did you know that it is quite easy to repair a vacuum cleaner?

You can find a lot of great information by checking the website of the manufacturer that made your vacuum cleaner. For example, if you have a Hoover vacuum, you can learn specifically about Hoover parts and how they work.

To repair the problem, you must first determine what is wrong with your vacuum cleaner.

Actually, there are not many vacuum parts that malfunction. The most common problem is a belt malfunction. To see the vacuum belt, you’ll want to flip the vacuum on its front so that the brush is facing you. You will notice a small plate around the brush. Unscrew this. Check the belt. It may have snapped or wrapped around part of the brush. If it’s broken, you’ll want to take your belt to a store to buy a new one. Many stores sell replacement vacuum cleaners, including stores like Walmart and Target. You should be able to identify the proper size belt and many times a package will contain multiple size belts, making it easier to ensure you have the correct one. Vacuum belts are not expensive at all.

You’ll also want to check out the vacuum shaker brush. Sometimes it can get tangled in hair, pieces of carpet, or string. You should use a pair of scissors to cut all of that out. Once it’s clean, you can simply replace the strap and screw the plate on the front.

If your vacuum has poor suction, you may have something blocking one of the hoses. Remove the hoses one at a time, consulting your owner’s manual if necessary. If you are having trouble reaching the clog, you can use the end of a mop or broomstick to push the clog.

It also makes sense to perform routine maintenance on your vacuum cleaner. You will need to check the vacuum filter frequently to make sure it is not too dirty or blocked. The vacuum filter can affect the performance of your machine. Also check your vacuum’s cord to make sure it hasn’t frayed. Vacuum cords can often be damaged when they are run over by the vacuum cleaner.

Most of the problems you have with your vacuum will be related to the shaker brush, belt, or a blockage. You can save a lot of time and money by doing the repairs yourself. You will be surprised how easy it is.

Sometimes a vacuum cleaner has electrical problems and those are much more difficult to fix on your own. In that case, it’s probably best to take it to someone who knows how to repair vacuums or make the switch to a new machine.

The next time you’re having trouble with your vacuum, try these simple tricks. They could breathe new life into your vacuum!
