Animal communication: how a lame horse tries to stop a suicide

Years ago, I had no idea of the depth of Soul level awareness that animals demonstrated, or even that I was receiving the messages on this higher plane. Animal consciousness continues to surprise and delight me, and has prepared me to share our deep interconnectedness, and has given me the courage to trust the messages I received no matter how crazy they sounded. The animal kingdom has unequivocally shown that consciousness has no limits and that the information I was receiving was not only important, but sometimes life-saving.

A while ago I received a call from a woman who sounded quite distraught. Overnight her horse couldn’t walk and she didn’t know what to do since he had very little money. After we talked, she said that she was already feeling better and that I should be the angel she had prayed for.

I drove to a nearby farm where he boarded his little bay mare. His horse shared a shed with two other friendly and boisterous companions…a heifer and a young bull. The cows did a lot of horseplay to get my attention, but the mare was less than enthusiastic.

I soon saw why: His right front leg was totally stiff from the shoulder down, as if he had just come out in a cast up to his armpit. She could barely maneuver around the shed to look at me. I’ve been around horses for most of my life, but I couldn’t recall any such extreme lameness, especially without any apparent traumatic incident.

I rubbed some therapeutic essential oils for pain and stiffness while applying Reiki energy to my leg, but for twenty minutes nothing changed, which is quite unusual with this powerful combination treatment. She couldn’t seem to get a “word” out of him to begin with.

Arriving at the end of the session, still without results, I asked again if the mare could clarify the cause of the lameness. “You know…she’s trying to kill herself.” Since I was still fairly new to animal communication, I remember wondering, “Did I really ‘hear’ this from the mare?” My own doubt was just the first hurdle I had to overcome.

While it can be challenging to prepare someone for the odd variety of comments I can get from animals, try turning that into a sentence! “Oh, by the way, your horse says you’re suicidal, and that’s why his leg is stiff as a board.” Or, more vulgar still, “Your horse is ‘out’ (a term meaning lame in the horse world) because you plan to ‘out’ yourself!”

Panicking a bit from the lack of options, I actually contemplated not saying it. I don’t have to share everything, do I? Maybe I misunderstood, or made up something wild. I got no more help from this unassuming little mare, no other word, thought or image to give me a way out. She did though; moving a little easier now, a slight flex in her knee that hadn’t been there before that crude communication.

When I finished the energy healing treatment, I tried to find a “natural” way to follow up on this initial revelation about the owner, and how to explain that his suicide plan was related to the instant limp. I asked him general questions about how he was doing, and as he drove back to the main road, he told me that he actually wanted to kill himself! I used that confession to slip out, “I know…your horse told me!” waiting for the expected disbelief. But the woman kept driving, saying that she was not surprised!

She had it all figured out: She was going to hitch up her trailer and drive herself, her horse, and her dog over a bridge. He planned to take the animals with her because he feared they would starve. As upset as her thought was, he could actually feel the compassion in her decision.

In my years as a family counselor, I knew that anyone who had a suicide plan worked out was pretty serious, so I pressed… “Are you still planning on doing this?” She perked up a bit, “Oh no, a few months ago I was determined, but I begged God to do it for me, and since God didn’t take me, I thought he had a plan for me. I decided to apply.” get my old job back as a crane operator. I loved that job; good money too. I have been unable to find work in Florida and have struggled to keep my animals fed, but they were always fed, even if I had nothing. .”

Relieved that she no longer planned to take her own life, I asked her to tell her mare that triple suicide was no longer her plan. Clearly the poor horse was very worried, and somehow the mare’s higher intelligence manifested this trauma to make sure someone would come out to check on her, since the woman was living a hermit existence. I was amazed at the practicality of the “fix” as it prevented the mare from going anywhere, especially into a trailer with an inflexible limb!

Still in a bit of shock from all of this, I moved on to my next appointment… a young German Shepherd who kept attacking a sweet gray horse. The woman with the lame mare told me again that she had revisited her little bay, and she took my advice to make it clear that she no longer intended to take her “family” over the bridge. Delighted, she reported that her horse now moved with 50% more flexibility than it did half an hour ago.

A few days later, I heard that the woman got her old job back as a tow truck operator and moved out of state – the best scenario that could have hoped for her and her family of animals!

While all of this sounds extraordinary, it is not uncommon for animals (and people too) to manifest extreme conditions in order to raise awareness of an emotional imbalance, either with them or with someone close to them. Once brought to light through animal communication and energetic healing, the need for the physical condition or strange behavior is released at the causal level and quickly subsides or often resolves entirely.
