Clutter and Hoarding: How Weeding My Garden Helps Eliminate Clutter

So you may be wondering, how can weeding a garden help me clear it up? You can use weeding concepts to help make clearing easier.

In my house, there are too many weeds to pull at one time. Pulling weeds gives me a reason to take a break and get outside to enjoy the sun and have a sense of wholeness.

do what you want

Sometimes I just pull whatever and whatever weeds I want wherever they are. I only shoot what I feel like shooting at the moment.

Do what you prefer to do at the moment. It really is okay to do what you feel like doing. Why not? You are doing something, and that is what is important. It does not mean that you will always be doing this. If you find that you are not doing things, then doing anything is better than doing nothing.

make things easy

There is a type of grass that is very easy to uproot. I enjoy making them as it is very simple and easy to do.

At home, make things easy. This can be done with easy micro steps where you just drop an easy thing or move an item to the correct room.

do what is urgent

Weeds that are about to bloom are more urgent than others. If I don’t pull these weeds up now, then they’ll flower and go to seed. This produces more weeds and the problem gets worse.

Some urgent things that need to be done to tidy up are to clean things that produce odor or that have a deadline, such as paying the bills.

Make tools easy to reach

I have a garden tool that helps to uproot weeds so they don’t grow back. I use gloves to pull weeds with thorns. I make sure my tools are easy to reach when I need them.

Organizational tools include hangers, boxes, labeling pens, folders, cleaning supplies, and bill-paying supplies (pen, checkbook, stamps). Make your tools easy to reach in the rooms where you need them.

do whatever is most embarrassing

I live in a community where many people go for walks. So I get embarrassed when they can see the weeds and sometimes this is where I pull the weeds first. I have other people living with me, so I also think about their feelings about having a nice front yard.

When decluttering, you may want to focus on making the entryway and living room look good. Where do the guests go in your house? Tidy up and straighten those areas. If you live with other people, do what makes them feel better, which could be your shared room.
