These days it is commonly alleged that Sodom was destroyed because of homosexuality, but the Bible in the original languages, as well as other literature of the time, establishes that the reason was the sexual union of disobedient angels (known as “The Watchers”). with humans
Jude claims that certain angels rebelled against God’s ordinances by “whoring” with human women, and as a consequence, God sent other angels with specific instructions to punish “The Watchers.” Judas states, “just like these,” Sodom and Gomorrah went after strange flesh (the union of angels with human women). Naphtali’s testament 3.3.4-5 also states that the women of Sodom had sexual relations with angels.
2 Enoch it establishes that the people of Sodom committed abominable acts, corruption of children, magic, incantations and devilish witchcraft. Church Father Irenaeus declared: “And wickedness continued long and spread through all races of men, until very little seed of righteousness was left in them. For illicit unions occurred on earth, as the angels united with the offspring of the daughters of men, who gave birth to them sons, who because of their greatness were called Giants. Then the angels brought their women teachings of evil as gifts, because they taught them the virtues of roots and herbs, and dyes and cosmetics and discoveries of precious materials, love-filters, hatreds, love affairs, passions, love constrictions, sorcery bonds, all sorcery and idolatry, hated to God; and when this came into the world, the matters of evil spread to overflow, and those of justice were reduced to very little”.
The 2nd c. tatian theologian, 2 Apology 5, stated: “God entrusted the care of people and all that is under heaven to angels whom he placed over them. But the angels disobeyed this command, and were captivated by the love of women, and begat children who they are the ones who are called demons and not only that, they later subdued the human race by themselves, partly by magical writings, and partly by the fears and punishments they induced, and partly by teaching them to offer sacrifices, incense and libations, for it was these things that stood in need after having been enslaved by lustful passions. And among mankind they sowed murder, war, adultery, immoderate acts, and all wickedness.”
Clement of Alexandria, Miscellaneous 5.1.10 stated: “To this we will also add, that the angels who had attained the highest rank, having plunged into pleasures, told the women the secrets which had come to their knowledge.”
Jude mentions “going after a different flesh”, and the punishment of angels. jude quotes 1 Enoch 1:9 in verses 14-15. 1 Enoch 6-10 states that 200 angels (The Watchers) came to earth, coveted human women causing “disgrace” and producing offspring. 1 Enoch states that the Watchers taught humans, among other things, sorceries, incantations, and the binding of incantations. Tertullian, Women1.2 stated that angels fell in love with women and referred to their progeny as a “more wicked race of demons”.
Naphtali’s testament 3.3.4-5 states that the women of Sodom had sexual relations with angels. He says: “In like manner also the Watchers changed the order of their nature, whom also the Lord cursed in the flood, and for their sake made the earth desolate, leaving it uninhabited and unfruitful.” Note the term “they changed the order of their nature” which is similar to Judas’s term, “they went after other flesh” and to Paul’s statement, “because the females changed the natural sex for that which is other than nature. And the same is true of males also,” in Romans 1:26 These days it is generally mistakenly assumed that this refers to homosexuality, but it was actually referring to the union of angels with humans, so precisely Sodom was destroyed.
