Gnocchi Topped With Maple Sausage Sauce – OMG This Is Delicious

It just doesn’t get much easier than this. Originally, I was going to make sausage gravy and biscuits for breakfast on a Sunday morning, but I was voted against buying the family, because they all decided they wanted French toast instead, so guess what we had for breakfast? That’s right, we had French toast, but the good thing is that it had the stuff for Sausage Gravy waiting to be created into some other exciting new dish.

So that night, as I was sitting there wondering what I was going to make for dinner, it suddenly dawned on me, and this is what I had to do to make it happen. If he read my article describing what a gnocchi is then he is aware of that, if he hasn’t I suggest you do. If you already know what they are, keep reading and try this. If you don’t care either way, read on and give it a try anyway.

This is what you will need:

1 tube of Jimmy Dean Maple Flavored Breakfast Sausage, or similar.
2 bags McCormick Country Sausage Gravy dry mix
4 cups of water
2 16-ounce Gia Russa gnocchi with potato, or equivalent (you can order directly from Amazon.com)
1 tablespoon of oil (cooking, not motor) that you have
Seasonings Salt, Pepper to taste and any other seasoning you like

It couldn’t be much easier, get a big pot, fill it with water and add your oil, this is to make sure your gnocchi doesn’t end up sticking together. I also like to open the package of gnocchi and toss it in a colander and separate it as it is vacuum packed and tends to stick together which can cause it to cook unevenly which I don’t want to happen. Once you have it on the stove, turn it on to high heat and wait for the water to come to a boil.

Then take a large skillet or skillet and open up your Sweet Maple Sausage Tube and put it in the skillet and turn it on high. Do your best to break it up into nice little pieces as you cook it, pretty much how you’d like your ground beef to look if you were making Sloppy Joe’s or something.

While it’s cooking, take a measuring cup and use it to measure 4 cups of water and pour into a large bowl, obviously big enough to hold all 4 cups of water. Using a wire whisk (a fork will work, but a whisk is best), slowly add the contents of the two bags of McCormick Sausage Gravy mix into the water and mix well. When the sausage is fully cooked, slowly pour this water mixture directly into the pan with the sausage and set on high, making sure to stir often.

By now the water should be boiling in your large pot, so take your gnocchi and carefully toss it into the boiling water. Initially it will sink to the bottom of the pot. Stir at first to make sure none stick to the bottom of the pot, but then let them boil for a few minutes. They won’t take long, when you see them floating on top, they’ll be done. Just put them back in the strainer you used to separate them when you emptied the pack in the first place. You can then give them a little rinse under warm water to remove excess starch. You don’t have to, but I usually do.

By now your gravity should be nice and thick, so turn off the stove and you’re good to go. Scoop out a few tablespoons of the gnocchi and place them on a plate or in a bowl and pour a generous dollop of sausage gravy over them, and season to taste. There is nothing left but Good Eats and Enjoy!
