Hairstyles for women over 50

Does your hairstyle still work after 50 years?

I know that when I reached middle age, my hair changed along with everything else. At 30, I had much more hair and had a natural curl. Although my hair has always been quite fine, I had a lot of it. The natural wave gave it body, and I tended to stick with a haircut that worked for me. That cut served me well as it was easy to style. I could just shower, spray, fluff up and run!

But as I got older, my hair texture changed and my hair started to turn gray. Although I experimented with hair color to keep the world from knowing that my hair had changed color, I couldn’t work with it in the same way. The curl she was proud of had become limp and lifeless. I wanted it to stand out but my hair just wanted to lay.

The best hairstyle for women over 50 may not have been the best hairstyle for women in their 30s.

Time for a new haircut

It was time for me to realize that I needed to do something else. The old layers that had made my hair curl around my head just looked like a shaggy mess. So my first piece of advice would be to ask your stylist what works on other people with hair like yours. A professional, with experience cutting more than 50 hairs, should be able to help you. I know that we older ladies are used to telling other people what to do. But this may be a good time to ask for advice.

If all the other clients in your salon are under 30, it might be time to ask your friends where they go for a good haircut. This is also not to say that you are out of dramatic hairstyles. I know a very polished-looking older woman who looks fantastic with her hair cut very short with blonde tips. Another woman, who is a grandmother and the financial director of her companyshe still has long, naturally gray hair.

There is no one hairstyle for over 50s, but there may be a better cut for you.

So, the search for the perfect 50+ hairstyle is more about finding what looks good on you than it is about trying to fit some standard of what 50-somethings are supposed to look like.

hair color after 50

Many of us, but not all, dye our hair to hide gray hair. This is the time when many women decide to become platinum blondes or redheads. There is nothing wrong with this if those shades suit you. But many of us have tried many different colors and gone back to trying to match our own youthful hair color. I personally watch better and younger and when I dye my hair light brown like when I was younger. Being blonde or red-haired would be fun, but it doesn’t suit me.

An easy way to experiment with different hair colors is to visit a wig store. Go ahead and try on a few different styles and colors to see what looks good on you. Buy a wig if you want. They are back now.

Chemicals in hair products

Some chemicals in common shampoos or other hair products can make your problems worse. Studies show that people who are prone to hair loss, in particular, are more likely to lose more hair if they continue to use these products. They can cause allergic reactions or block nutrients from entering the scalp. If you’re having trouble with thinning hair, try switching to natural salon products for a while. You may find that your body is able to repair itself when you stop blocking it.
