How long does it take to paint a wooden window?

Well, it’s all going to depend on the size and design of the wooden window, but you can plan to spend quite a bit of time painting these intricate architectural elements.

Let me give you an idea, I had to paint 7 wooden windows, once and they didn’t have any architectural details, they were just old wooden windows. The kind of windows that were installed during the 1950’s and would need to be replaced or repaired in the near future.

You may find this hard to believe, but I used to paint the exterior of the house, a small house, for $300, and a landlord would supply me with the paint. I had to buy the rest of the materials, but I was able to paint the exterior of these little houses, in about a day and a half.

Except for the wooden windows, this was a totally different story and I would not paint the wooden windows every time I painted the house. I often touched up the windows, but the amount of time it usually took me to paint these windows was incredible.

Keep something in mind here, I could paint the whole house in about 12 hours, but it would take me about the same amount of time, just to paint the outside of these windows and over half of them wouldn’t open, because they were previously painted closed. .

If the wood window has any sort of architectural detail, or grilles or split lights, you might plan to spend a bit of time painting each window. If you’ve never painted a wood window before, plan to spend at least four to six hours for windows smaller than 3′ x 3′ and plan to spend at least eight to 12 hours or more for larger wood windows .

If you are a contractor bidding on a job, you may want to contact a professional painter or at least get someone else’s opinion before you sign the contract.

If you are a homeowner and you hire a professional painter and you get a bit of a laugh, now you know why.
