Stop dog whining with positive reinforcement

While stopping a dog’s whining can be one of the most difficult actions to control. I know that for me I always had a dog that constantly complained about anything that came to mind. Although I tried many methods, I found that some worked very well, while others left me thinking that he was wasting his time. So I thought I’d share the method that I found worked the best to help prevent my dog from engaging in this behavior all the time.

The method I found works best is to find out what it is complaining about. I know that sometimes this can be really hard to do because they could be doing this for attention, something is wrong, they have to go to the bathroom, or for a wide variety of reasons. I know that if they are doing it for attention, the worst thing you can do is give them attention right away because they will keep doing that behavior every time they want that reward. So the best way to get them to stop whining for attention would be to ignore the whining until they calm down and calm down a bit, then you can pet them.

I know this might seem a little weird that once you find out they’re doing this because they want attention, you just ignore them, but if you pay attention to them, they’ll keep doing it. However, by ignoring them and only rewarding them when they stop the bad action, they will put two and two together and stop the bad behavior.
