Choosing a home audio setup is never simple, especially when it comes to installation. In this article, we’ll point out the 5 most common mistakes when setting up a home theater system.
1. Paying a lot for the audio system:
The first most common mistake a person makes with home audio setup is expecting it to be good just because it has left a significant hole in their bank account. This is especially true for the speakers that come with the TV.
With the increasing demand for sleek and smart designs, it has hardly left any room for manufacturers to work on a decent set of speakers.
As a general rule of thumb, a person should always spend about the same amount on the audio system as they do on the TV.
2. Satellite speakers:
Small or satellite speakers are fine, but only as long as they have a decent sized subwoofer. By nature, tiny speakers are not good at producing low-frequency sounds, the same goes for the subwoofer.
While size doesn’t mean quality, always choose a sound system that has larger speakers for the center channel.
3.Dolby and surround sound:
As a pioneer of surround sound technology, the Dolby name is synonymous with great sound quality. This does not mean that it is what you need. There are many surround sound systems on the market that can be used in your home theater setup. Some of the most popular are Dolby Digital, which is also known by the name of AC3 and there is also DTS. If you really want a 7.1 speaker system, it’s best to go with Dolby Digital EX or DTS ES.
There are also other surround sound systems on the market, such as Dolby Digital Pro Logic 2 and DTS Neo 6, which are designed to simulate surround sound effects through a stereo input.
4. Manufacturer’s specification:
When it comes to manufacturer specifications, don’t take their word for it. Check the frequency response curve provided by the manufacturer to get a better idea of the sound quality, ideally the curve should be flatter, but the only way to really tell the difference is by listening to it.
5. The best sound comes with the best cables:
You can’t really talk about sound unless you’re also talking about cables. Sound cables differ in quality and price, but spending a lot of money on cables in the digital age is not smart. The only thing you really need to focus on is having cables that are long enough and are the most appropriate for your home theater setup.
