Condoms are the cheapest and most convenient form of birth control on the market. There is no age requirement to purchase one. Now, people can even choose to buy condoms online. But even with these advantages, some people still won’t buy a condom, exposing themselves to the risks that come with unprotected sex. With this, the Bill Gates Foundation has launched a contest for the redesign and development of the best condom on the market.
These are some of the ideas that made it to phase one. They were awarded a $100,000 research and development grant. The best idea will get a staggering $1 million.
FAST PROJECT
In addition to the feeling one can get from wearing a condom, this project also prioritizes ease of use. Developed by a company in South America, proponents want a condom that can be used on a single thug after unwrapping.
INCORPORATION OF GRAPHENE
There are a lot of comments about condoms online and most of them are about how men don’t want to use them because the sensation is reduced. Lakshminarayanan Ragupatin, from a company in India, would like to solve this problem by developing a thinner and warmer condom. This can be done by incorporating graphene, a new super strong and conductive material, into the product. This will create a more natural feel due to the thinner walls, which improves the amount of body heat transfer.
PERFECT FIT CONDOM
The UK’s Cambridge Design Partnership is doing its best to create a low-cost, universal-fit, dynamic condom. The unique thing about their product is that when using the condom during sexual intercourse, the multiple polymers it contains will tighten around the sexual organ. This is intended to maximize pleasure for both partners.
CONDOMS WRAP
Among those who made the cut is the great idea of the California Family Health Council. Its concept is to make a condom as thin as possible without losing its durability. They are testing polyethylene, which will stick to the surface rather than tighten. Therefore, the sensation intensifies.
