The most expensive ice cream in the world

The most expensive ice cream is called “Golden Opulence” Sundae. Manhattan restaurant Serendipity 3 celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2004 and as a publicity stunt decided to create the most expensive ice cream in the world.

The Guinness Book World of Records has recognized them for achieving the goal they set for themselves. On the menu, the $1,000 ice cream was awarded the gold medal for the title of most expensive ice cream in the world.

The Golden Opulence contains: Madagascar vanilla-infused Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream covered in edible 23K gold leaf, Amedei Porceleana chocolate (the most expensive chocolate in the world), chunks of the rare Chuao chocolate (made with cocoa harvested in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Venezuela). Other amazing ingredients are exotic candied fruits from Paris, golden dragées (almonds covered in edible 23-carat gold), truffles, and marzipan cherries. On top of the Sundae you can find a small bowl of Grand Passion Caviar. This is a dessert caviar made from unsalted American golden caviar. The ice cream is sweetened with passion fruit, orange and Armagnac. The masterpiece is served in a Harcourt baccarat crystal glass with an 18K spoon to further enrich the experience.

The Golden Opulence takes several days to prepare and if you find yourself craving this expensive ice cream, it wouldn’t hurt to call ahead and order it. The number of people who have enjoyed this experience adds up to a total of 15. The Sundae was also the highlight of a Sweet Sixteen party in the Manhattan that never sleeps. The Golden Opulence is still served today. So if you’re ever in Manhattan and in need of the royal treatment, don’t be shy and stop by the restaurant for a taste of this golden treat!
